Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port Route, France
92 km / 57 miles – 2 to 3 hours – France
An amazing route in the vicinity of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, with breathtaking scenery!
Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port – Lacarre – Mendive – Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port
The route start from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a UNESCO commune (city gate) in the Pyrénées very close to the Spanish border. It’s not surprising that this commune once was a part of the Spanish province of Navarre. Although its French now, they still use a few Spanish traditions. The town specializes in sheep’s cheese, local trout and omelette with special peppers and local ham.
The route starts on the north side of the bridge over the river Nive, which divides the town in two pieces. The first part runs to Jaxu and Lacarre, than south towards the Spanish border and via a narrow, but very nice twisty piece back to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
